Simple tasks, like running an application or visiting a website, can be difficult if the screen is cluttered with icons and opened windows. Fortunately, there are numerous applications on the Internet, which can make basic navigation much easier. A shining example is PointNLaunch. While this simple application is running on your computer, you can bring up a series of shortcuts next to the mouse cursor. You can set the application to reveal shortcuts for applications, folders on your hard drive or websites.

PointNLaunch is absolutely free and it works on Windows XP (SP3) Vista and Windows 7. You can install it in a matter of seconds, by following a wizard's simple instructions. The application can be used with any mouse, but your experience will be better if you have a mouse with an extra button.

Once installed, PointNLaunch will start working immediately, without getting in your way. It won't even display a system tray icon. The application comes with a set of predefined shortcuts, for Windows Explorer, Google, Internet Explorer and Windows utilities. You can change these shortcuts on a tabbed configurations panel, after running an EXE file.

Reconfiguring the shortcuts is a very easy task. To set up an application shortcut, you must select its executable, on a standard Open dialog. Website shortcuts are defined by typing or pasting a URL on a small window. When you set up a new shortcut, PointNLaunch will automatically retrieve the application's or website's name and icon. You can also view a shortcut's properties, change its name and icon and add command line parameters.

An activation method for the shortcuts can be selected on a different tab. You can bring up the icons next to the mouse cursor by clicking with both buttons or by clicking with the mouse wheel. Alternatively, if your mouse has an extra button, you can assign it as the application's trigger.

Pros

You can bring up a series of shortcuts next to the mouse cursor. PointNLaunch allows you to set up shortcuts for applications, folders and websites. You can also use a mouse with an extra button to reveal the shortcuts.

Cons

You can define a maximum of eight shortcuts. With PointNLaunch, you can reach any location on your hard drive, launch any application or visit any website instantly, with nothing more than a simple click.
